Decorating The Elms 2025

Opening Nov. 22, 2025! Be sure to get out to Newport to experience the holiday decorations this year. Once again I had a blast working on the Elms decor. Besides the Breakers, Marble House and the Elms, the Chateau-sur-Mur will also be open and decorated. Make great memories!
Dighton Garden Club 2025

I enjoyed an evening with the members of the Dighton Garden Club, during their last meeting on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. We discussed the different types of water features, selecting fish, options of water plants and more. Thank you to Dawn Marie and the group for having me speak.

Mock Job Fair 2025

What a special event for the students. This was the 3rd annual "Mock Job Fair" where students were able to experience what a job fair is all about and what to expect, in the comfort of the school gym. We answered questions and give some guidence. Great job once again by Sandra Noel and the BCAHS team that put this event together, and to all the companies that participated in this special day. Thanks for providing us lunch too. Looking forward to the next event in Sept, I believe. Any local business interested in showcasing your company to these student (possible future employees), contact Sandra at BCAHS.

Newport Flower Show Submission 2024

"Class 5: My Favorite Plants" was the theme given to the "Professional Gardeners Challenge for the 2024 Newport Flower Show. For 2024 the show returned back to Rosecliff, after the major renovations were in progress to the exterior of the property the previous year. For this 'invitation only' category, we were to create an informative display using an aluminum raised bed container (provided), to consist of our favorite plants, provide a guide and description. I was happy to be joined in the challenge with friends and fellow gardeners who are held in high regard. Stiff competition, to say the least, but I enjoyed every minute of it. From creating the design layout on paper, to narrowing down and selecting my favorites to include. I decided to split the display in half, by including a handmade trellis made from my Dad's grave vine clippings as a divider. One side contained an arrangement of my favorite perennials and groundcover plants, such as climbing pink roses, may night sage, liatris, echinacea, gaura, and 'burgundy glow' ajuga. While the other half contained edible favorites such as sunflower, cherry tomatoes, herbs, and pest repelling annuals. I already received my instructions and have started planning this year's entry. "Love what you do, and you'll never work a day in your life.' So true!
